The original edition was published in 1973; revised and expanded editions were issued in 1975, 1995, 2004, and 2011. The newest edition of the book covers a broad history of the company and specific sections for movies, Pixar, live action and the Theme parks. The latest edition also includes a foreword by John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Disney who is currently on a six-month sabbatical after alleged misconduct.

This book was the first to reveal the wealth of concept art, animation drawings, and archival material created in the course of animating films.

Includes many color plates, including hundreds of previously unpublished drawings, painting and photographs. The first printing of first edition included a fragile plastic jacket, which is most often lacking or torn.
