Lee Friedlander's first separate monograph was SELF PORTRAIT (1970) and 30 years later he revisits himself with this collection. In SELF PORTRAIT we mostly see his shadow, but in this later body of work, it is his body that is the subject. His expression is generally blank, but in a few instances, as in the photographs with his wife and granddaughter (for whom this book is dedicated) a wisp of a smile is revealed.
