MacMillan, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover. Used - Good/Good. 1959 MacMillan New York Hardcover in Good condition. Very rare copy by the author of the award winning book 'Caddie Woodlawn'. Set in the white-pine timberland of the Idaho panhandle in 1908, the story explores the efforts of the early U.S. Forest Service to instill a sense of conservation in the land–a new concept affecting Idaho’s seemingly inexhaustible forests. Green cloth covered boards in good condition with bumped edges from shelf wear. DJ intact and in Good(-) condition; inside front flap corners are clipped but price still visible, edges significantly worn with tears at spine; large chip missing from front cover (see pic); old tape glue stains. Book binding is tight and square. Pages are severely foxed. No interior marks or writing.

With Scibner's 'A,' octavo, original pictorial calico-textured cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, with only a tiny imperfection on the upper front cover, one below the title, and chip on top of spine. Illustrations by Robert Camp. Readers of Rawlings' 1942 pastoral idyll Cross Creek took special notice of her ability to describe food, and responded to the book with hundreds of letters asking for recipes. Rawlings obliged in Cross Creek Cookery, interweaving her instructions for Florida Backwoods Biscuits and Aunt Luella's Boiled Salad Dressing with nostalgic vignettes and insightful reflections on the many meanings of meals. A wonderful copy of this classic! Used/Near Fine.
