This volume names and describes the mercies and the churches and museums in France where these artifacts are preserved. The origin of mercy (or mercies) is linked to the rhythm and length of the holy service in religious communities in the Middle ages where the prayers were said while standing. They were counted off on a stick which was placed discreetly behind them. Mercies are presented in the form of small consoles attached to the underside of small folding seats. HEAVY.
