This book provides a comprehensive grammatical description of Cavinea, an endangered language spoken in Amazonian Lowland Bolivia, belonging to the Tacanan family. The grammar is the first full-length study of a language from this family. The analyses are primarily based on first-hand data collected by the author in traditional Cavinea communities and cast in a user-friendly functional-typological framework. The language contains a number of unusual features that will be of interest to typologist linguists, such as its pitch accent system, its predicate structure and its second position clitic pronouns. The grammar will also be of interest to historical-comparative linguists, allowing for reliable comparison with other languages with which Tacanan languages might be related, in particular the Panoan family, and serving as input into new hypotheses regarding the population history of this part of South America.
