Origins and development of particular types of work such as drawn-thread, cut holes, open geometric cutwork, tiny projecting points, free needle lace, metal thread, bobbin lace, and more, are discussed in relation to influences from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Links between other decorative arts, such as woven silk, are compared.
