This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition of work by the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) held at the Musee du Luxembourg, Paris from 23 October 2002 to 2 March 2003. It was the first exhibition of work in Paris for 40 years, and claimed to contain almost a quarter of Modigliani's output of drawings, sculptures and paintings. Around a third of the works (there are 100 in total) had never been exhibited before in France. The portraits in this show include the celebrated images of Leopold de Zborowski, Paul Guillaume, his girlfriends Béatrice Hastings and Jeanne Hébuterne, and his male friends Soutine, Kisling, Chéron and Max Jacob..
