Sweden 1997. This exhibition displays the exquisite works from the Fabergé jewelry house in St. Petersburg and Moscow. This exhibition serves as a reminder both of Swedens past ties to its neighbor in the east and Swedens fascination with what they considered the exotic Russian Empire. In fact, many of the master jewelers have Swedish names, yet another reminder that Russia once belonged to Sweden. Swedes regard Russian crafts very highly, as the elegance and inherent value of these objects mirror the excess characteristic of the time of the Empire. Though this excess eventually led to the fall of the Empire, it was also responsible for the wondrously imaginative and dazzling handicrafts that emerged from its most renowned jewelry house.
