A diverse array of objects are fully illustrated and described, including bowls, boxes of many different functions, sutra covers, vases and a spectacular selection of early Chinese lacquered wooden zithers (guqin). Techniques such as shallow and deep relief carving, inlaid gold leaf (qiangjin), infilling (tianqi), mother-of-pearl inlay and other intricate methods are highlighted.
