There are few published accounts of Chinese life in Indonesia, and fewer still written from the perspective of a woman. This special biography has been written by An Sudibjo's son-in-law, Stuart Pearson, who began work on An's biography in 2003. An was a civil servant during the Dutch administration, and then a teacher after Indonesian independence. She ran a famous Indonesian restaurant in York Street, Sydney, for many years.
