Descripción:
New York: The Viking Press,, 1936. First US edition, first impression of the author's first novel, published pseudonymously. This copy belonged to the poet and architect Edward Steese (1903-1981) who was involved in the preservation of New York's architectural and historic landmarks in the 1950s and 1960s. Steese published several volumes of poetry and also documented New York City's architecturally historic buildings. There are one or two very minor pencil annotations to the text ("see L. A. G. Strong's poems" on page 200, for example). Octavo. Original light green cloth, lettered in gilt, top edge orange. Bookplate of Edward Steese on front pastedown with ownership signature on front free endpaper. Spine sunned with slight browning to endpapers, else a good copy.

Descripción:
New York, NY: Viking Press. Very Good in Fair dust jacket. 1932. First American Edition. Hardcover. T. H. White published two early novels under the pseudonym James Aston. This American first printing muses on the dust jacket about some of the guesses as to the author's identity when it was first published in 1932. Faded turquoise cloth boards rubbed on corners, gilt on spine tarnished. Dust jacket chipped along edges, especially at corners and is soiled overall. Text is clean and free of markings.; Book; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall .

Descripción:
London: Chatto & Windus, 1932. Very good plus in like dust jacket.. First edition of this "lightly preposterous" story about the "oddest of Mediterranean antics" of a group of quirky hotel guests. T. H. White took inspiration for this work of holiday-maker mischief from his time in Italy while recovering from tuberculosis. Contemporary readers, however, were in the dark about how the author's personal experiences influenced the novel: it was the first of two novels that White published under the James Aston pseudonym. THEY WINTER ABROAD represents a period of genre experimentation before his great success with THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING. A bright copy of an amusing work. 7.5'' x 4.75''. Original yellow cloth binding with red spine label. Original price-clipped color pictorial dust jacket. Black topstain. [8], 304 pages with [4] pages of ads to rear. Jacket with a touch of edgewear, careful small glue repair to top of spine. Binding spine ends somewhat bumped, foxing to fore-edge and bottom edge. A sharp copy.
