Text is Nearly Fine with sharp corners, firm square binding, fresh cloth. Neat owner's name and date on front free endpaper. Also, a very small neat notation on the next page, and neat owner's stamp (about 1.5") on the half-title page. Fragile dust jacket is not price-clipped, very slightly sun-faded (less than usual), worn at tips with slight loss, a couple of edge-tears, 5/8" chip to base of spine. A slightly better than average copy of this fragile and uncommon Canlit classic. Scans available. INSCRIBED on the title page "For M_____ - best wishes - Margaret Atwood".

The wrapper is very clean and bright with only very minimal rubbing to the corner and spine ends. It is not price clipped. The book is very presentable with no issues. There is no foxing or handling wear. Overall a near fine copy.  The booker prize winning author's first novel. It is the story of a young woman whose sane, structured, consumer-oriented world starts to slip out of focus. Following her engagement, Marian feels her body and her self are becoming separated. New York: Atlantic, Little Brown, 1969. First edition, first printing. Published by Little Brown in London, 1969. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper, designed by John Alcorn, has some mild rubbing and wear throughout. The spine tips are worn and slightly soiled. The title is slightly worn. The rear panel is rippled and some wear at the tail edge. The internals are mostly clean throughout and free from previous owners inscriptions. The boards are free from notable wear, quarter-bound in pink cloth. The text blocks are free from foxing, though slightly stained on the side edge. This copy is free from previous owner's ink and is, overall, in very good (or better) condition. The story of a young woman, Marian, whose sane, structured, consumer-oriented world starts to slip out of focus.
