Rough cut pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, creased corners and foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Gift inscription on half-title "A birthday card with love & best wishes from your affectionate son." List of 10 Envelope Books at rear, of which this is No. 5.

Hardcover, gilt top edge, 79 pp., illustrated (including tipped-in color plates), clean unmarked text, Very Good copy, age-toning to the pages and the page-edges, some soiling and discoloration to the covers, some wear to the covers including rubbing and some loss especially at the spine. We've housed the book in protective mylar.

Dark and light blue boards, front has illustration of knight and woman on horseback, 79 numbered, deckled pages. Spine faded and smudged, lightly bumped on ends of spine, corners rubbed and bowed. Pages darkened, ffep brittle and small piece missing on fore edge, else pages spotless and binding tight. Tipped-in illustrations exquisite and colours bright. Overall, very good plus.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No DJ. Illus. by Nash, Marjorie. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Author translated this anonymous medieval French prose about 1908. This issue is illustrated with eight (8) tipped in color plates, as well as many b/w line drawings. Fore-edge has lovely deckling, with the pages holding the color plates being a tad larger. A prev. owners book plate on inside front cover; blank front free end-paper has a 1/2" chip to tissue like paper. Very mild scattered foxing to a few pages, no other markings. NO dust jacket. Blue spine is sunned. Still a very lovely copy of a hard to find title. 4" wide x 6-1/2" tall. 80 pages + 3 pages of ads at rear. Protected in a mylar slip.

Bound in full dark red crushed morocco in unmistakable Douglas Cockerell designed binding at the W. H. Smith Bindery with geometric interlocking gilt ruled patterning on both covers and spine, with four small gilt circles used as patterning on covers and spine. ONE OF ONLY SIX SPECIAL COPIES with the following holograph note by Bourdillon on facing page to half-title: "Six copies (only) printed of this size/ to take Proof sets of Bida's etchings/ designed for his own rendering into/ Modern French.
