Cobalt-blue illustrated publisher’s cloth over beveled boards, gilt & black lettering, decoration illustration front cover wraparound to spine, brown clay-sized endpapers (minor edgewear, fraying head & foot of spine, minor bumping & wear to corners), still a VG- copy, w/ small bookseller’s label of Joseph McDonogh, Albany, NY on front pastedown. First American edition of this well-written account of Mrs. Brassey’s yachting voyages from 1874-1878 on their 3-masted steam-powered schooner Sunbeam through the Mediterranean, Adriatic, with stops in Greece, Sicily, Cyprus, and extensive travels and stops through Constantinople, and the Ottoman Empire. Insert signed by Lord Brassey, husband of the author to front free endpaper. Colour pull-out maps to endpapers. Black and white illustrations and plates throughout. Mild cracking to gutters on occasion. Binding remains firm with all pages attached. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Slightly more pronounced towards the start and end of the book. Illustrations are bright and clear, with some light tanning and foxing to edges. Faint pencil marks to front free endpaper. Some uncut pages towards the start and end of the book. Boards have mild shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Mild sunning to spine. Faint mark to top of rear board. Gilt lettering and decorations remain bright and clear.
