In quite good green cloth boards, gilt titles and horizontal bands to spine. The boards are firm and flat; spine ends bumped and thin band on the tail edge is discoloured as if by tape. Tanned and foxed free end papers; dedication on front free end paper. Lightly tanned cut edges. The text block is tightly bound and straight; the pages from and including the Prelims to page 43 and Index are foxed. With b/w photos and colour frontispiece. Good plus condition. Without jacket.

Good, plastic cover to DJ taped to inside flaps, tape line transered to end papers, grubby top edge of pages. Otherwise very clean internally with little sign of use.  No inscriptions or markings and not price clipped.

Batsford London, 1953 A book graded Near Fine takes the age into consideration. This is a splendid survey which captures a time successfully. This is wonderful history; it evokes a past we have largely lost, but it is in no way nostalgic. It is all the more effective because of that. The dust jacket is dull and a bit chipped, but it is now protected. The binding is firm. 132 magnificent photographs. Numerous line drawings enhance understanding. This is a superbly written book, which informs, entertains, and educates. Rare to find it in a complete jacket.. 1st Edition.. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good.
