Good+ (leather rubbed at edges & corners w/ some areas of wear & darkening. small tear to spine end & edge. black pastedowns & endpapers worn. pgs have instances of spotted & smudged darkened foxing; occasional marks or smudges. some darker tanned pgs; or text areas tanned, but text remains dark & detailed.). red leather boards w/ embellishments & gilt printing. approx 770 pgs w/ bw tissue-guarded plates. fold-out letter all edges gilt. Red leather and gilt embellishments remain bright and attractive. Spine worn, but still highly detailed. Slight split to gutter at frontispiecies and a slight split to textblock in volume 1; textblock firm. Hinges firm. Pages remain fairly bright and relatively unscathed from foxing. Opening pages have moisture-like staining and heavier concentrations of foxing to frontispieces. Volumes one and two bound as 'Bunyan's Complete Works.' Facsimile of Bunyan's will intact. Richard Edwards , 1806 . Three volume set: Vol. I is dated 1805 on the title page, vols. II & III are dated 1806. Binding of all three volumes is worn, with a long split along the fold of the spine & back cover of volume I: there is also a large discoloured patch on the spine, presumably from it having been exposed to damp at some time. There is loss to the top of the spine of vol. II: the set really needs rebinding. All 3 vols have a 1914 ownership signature on their ffeps. There is intermittent pencil marking in the margins of all three volumes, most thickly clustered in “Grace Abounding” & “The Pilgrim’s Progress”: I have noticed one instance of ink annotation in the margin of vol.II, & there may, of course, be more which I have missed. Vols. I & II both have engraved frontispieces, & “The Pilgrim’s Progress” is illustrated with 5 plates. There is a light damp stain in the top margin of much of volume I, not affecting the main area of text or the illustrated area of the plates, &… Leer más

First 4 volumes with continuous pagination, 2652 pages, 50 single page engraved plates, volume 5, The Holy War, viii, 343pp, 1pp directions to the binder, 1-32pp, 11 plates, including frontis, volume 6, The Pilgrim's Progress, in 2 parts, xvi, 197,[3],[8],177,[1]pp, 4pp subscibers. 16 plates, including frontis. Bound in cloth, with gilt lettering, volume 1 & 2, are worn with loss on head and tail of spines, the other volumes have been rebacked. Generally binding showing wear, but in good condition. Internally, text blocks are holding, but with use could become loose, a few plates chipped on margins, some light tanning or offsetting, heavier in places. Generally pages and plates in good condition. Overally a good copy, of a rare set. . An Entire New and Complete Edition . Cloth. Good Plus. 8vo.
