Violet pebbled cloth, decorations in black, gilt lettering, brown endpapers, guarded frontispiece and additional illustrations (some full page), folding map at rear. ; 5-3/4" x 8-1/4"; 529 pp; Spine rubbed and discolored, spot of staining to spine, a number of discolored spots on rear board, worn at spine ends, fraying at corners, sound hinges (must have been repaired?), prior owner bookplate inside front cover, text block generally clean and free of foxing, map with splits and loss of about 2 square inches along top. .

Poor condition, the binding is split but all pages are present. The cover is held together by tape. Dark green boards with black illustrations and gilt lettering. Many fine illustrated plates and map folded inside the back cover.

Ex-library, with call numbers to bottom of spine strip, library bookplate to inside front board and a library stamp to title page as well as most full page illustrations.  Boards are lightly soiled and shelfworn, sun-faded along spine strip with wear along edges, both spine ends worn and frayed, and top edge points bumped. Internally end-pages lightly foxed but otherwise clean. The map is in very good condition with an approximately  2 inch tear along bottom edge where attached to book. The binding is tight with hinges intact.
