One of 140 copies printed on Imperial Japan paper "with two additional full-page illustrations, and with extra prints, before letter, of all the full-page illustrations," numbered 77. From a total limitation of 1,150. Finely bound by Riviere in brown morocco, with five raised bands to spines, spine compartments ruled and lettered in gilt, spines decorated in blind, and top edge gilt. Near fine set, with light toning and rubbing to spines, light spotting to boards and text block edges, board edges rubbed to boards in some areas, and some offsetting to endpaper margins. Also the first one-volume edition of this translation, and first folio in English. Two parts in one volume, chancery folio. [xvi], 138, [x], 138-274 pp. with each numbered page of the contents actually containing two pages. Woodcut devices on both titles, woodcut head-pieces and decorative initials. Full contemporary English calf twice ruled in blind, rebacked with recent endpapers. Corners worn with losses, some surface wear, lacking blanks. Title-page worn and soiled at edges, small hole above title. Some spotting throughout text, darkening along edges. Smith to expertly bind (signed on rear lower dentelle of volume two in gilt pallet: "Bound by W. H. Smith and Son," An impressive binding with five large raised bands extending slightly onto covers forming a triangle, six large raised bands and two extending out at top and bottom, six panels, two of which contain gilt-stamped lettering. Printed in Ptolemy type, designed for its first use by Emery Walker, in black and red, double column, shoulder notes in red, chapter headings in red beneath chapter numbers in black, two three-quarter page borders, 18-line and smaller initial capitals or opening words in a stylized black-on-white leaf and tendril pattern, designed by Louise Powell and cut on wood by W.
