The spine covering is slightly faded from being shelved in the sunlight. The binding is tight and square, and the text is clean.

Pages have slight foxing, tanning and minor thumbing. Foxing more noticeable towards the start and end of the book. Prize plate to front pastedown. Pencil inscriptions to front endpaper. Text block edges are a little tanned and foxed and dusty with minor scratches. Boards have some moderate edge wear, with slight bumping to corners and minor bumping to spine ends. Boards a little rubbed and marked overall. Slightly mottled and dusty to rear. Gilt is bright. Spine is noticeably sunned.

Tape marks to endpapers and pastedowns. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. Light tanning to spine and edges.

Title page lettered in red and black. Contemporary burgundy full morocco, boards lavishly gilt-tooled, upper with the gilt armorial device of the Licensed Victuallers' School. Gilt titles, tooling, and raised bands to spine. Gilt dentelles to turn-ins. All edges gilt. Blue and white marbled endpapers. Lightly spotted throughout, most heavily to preliminaries, rear blanks, and endpapers. Some offsetting from portrait. Front flyleaf cancelled. Single white mark to top edge. Gentle scuffing to boards, sunning to spine, rubbing to joints, raised bands, and extremities. Very good. A fine leather-bound tome of the Bard's work.
