This is a collection of Charles Dickens' three classic Christmas novels: A Christmas Carol, The Chimes and The Cricket on the Hearth. This was originally published as the New Oxford Illustrated Dickens, in 1955. In 1976, the American illustrator Warren Chappell (1904-1991) created his own illustrations for this set and published it in the US. This is a copy of that publication.It is cream-coloured boards with a red and green design on the cover and spine. Inside, there are numerous sepiatone illustrations. The book is in pristine condition, with no marks of any kind in it or on it. There is an attractive bookplate on the inside front cover. The tops of the pages are dyed red. This is an antique issue of "The Leisure Hour Library" publication that contains four works by Charles Dickens, as follows: Barnaby Rudge; Christmas Stories (comprised of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, The Cricket on the Hearth, and The Chimes). Published September 7, 1889 by F.M. Lupton in New York (Volume III, No. 259). All works are "unchanged and unabridged." The front cover features an illustration of "Dolly Varden" from Barnaby Rudge. Softcover.Condition:Clean front cover; the back cover has a small tear at the top edge and a small, dark stain spot at the bottom edge. The paper over the spine is present and has not chipped away, though there are a few tears along the edges. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Great condition interior - clean with no writing, stains or foxing found; a few random pages have creased corners from being folded. The outer edge of the back cover and a few other random pages have small tears along the perimeter. Overall in very good condition.
