The "Letters of Franklin" were published in the "Philadelphia Aurora" in a series of articles that are attributed to Alexander James Dallas, a Jamaican-born Scot, who emigrated to the United States in 1783. He was a lawyer and is noted as having, with Hallam, atempted to introduce regular theatre to Philadelphia. He was also on the Committee of Correspondence that organized the first Democratic society in the United States in 1793 and published several pieces including "Features of Mr. Jay's Treaty" (1795).
