We hold with the first contingent of those who consider the correct dating of the first English edition is 1948 (not 1947).

New York: The Gotham Book Mart, [ca. 1948].. Invitation to a reception and book signing for the famous French poet, playwright and filmmaker. Typewritten on Funk & Wagnalls stationery. 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches. No year given, but Funk & Wagnalls brought out Cocteau's play in 1948. Letter is chipped and creased top and bottom, with a small hole at lower right. Has been folded once; there is an arrowhead-shaped piece missing from the right edge at the fold. OverallVery Good.

From the working library of the actor Peter O�Toole (1932 - 2013) with his posthumous bookplate. This small typographic bookplate reads 'From the Library of Peter O�Toole� and was designed by Michael Mitchell of Libanus Press and was authorised by the executors of his estate. A typed signed letter from the actor and agent, Perry Soblosky to Peter O�Toole, loosely inserted. He is asking if OTolle would star in a revival of Cocteau's play, he says that it is a difficult part and the writing is wooden but he has organised for a rewrite. Perry Soblosky was as an actor, known for Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter (1974), On the Buses (1969) and The Adventurer (1972) his ownership signature, phone number and London address are on the front endpaper.
