London: William Pickering, 1835. Hardcover. Very Good. Volume one only (of three). Paper covered boards. Large chip in front fly, owner's name on the half-title, very good.

Copyright 1884 at bottom of front board. "1883" pencilled on front e.p. with a gift inscription. Sold by C. Beach, Bookseller and Stationer, San Francisco. A tight, very clean, VG copy.

Good bright binding 667pgs, with 2 pages of publishers adds at the back of the text, book plate on front paste-down, green Victorian cloth with front cover & spine decorations, all edges gilt. Nicely laid out text with red line border printed on each page.

Owner's signature in volume 2 only. The spine backs are partially detached, the front cover of volume 3 is detached, the front hinge of volume 2 is split, thus fair. Else an internally clean and tight set of the Pickering edition in its original state (a price of "Five Shillings" is printed on the paper spine labels). Suitable for rebinding.

Small ink numbers on title pages and hand written ink ex libris note to endpapers. Wear to extremities. Frontis portrait of Coleridge with offset to title page and facsimile signature. Reprinted from the 1852 London edition. Nice set.

Contemporary full morocco, spines, boards, boards edges and returns elaborately gilt tooled, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers (a little scuffed at edges of spine and corners - otherwise a bright VG set). Pp. xiv + 288 [&] vi + 338 [&] 331 (previous owner's 1855 inscription on verso of front free endpaper of vol I and bookseller's ticket on front paste-downs of vols II & III).

First edition thus in 3 volumes. Preface by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
and edited by Henry Nelson Coleridge. Contains 66 new pieces.
