Lacking frontispiece Vol. I. Minor edge wear; a slight bump to fore-edge pages through frontis tissue; and light age-toning to bottom and fore- text block. No markings, tight binding and clean interior. 5.5" x 8". Blue cloth with decorative gilt crest and lettering to front board, and gilt lettering to spine..

Clean, bright copies, minimal wear, previous owner's vintage bookplates in both vols.

Very good, hinges cracked on both volumes, owners inscription on front end papers, very minor pen and pencil notes in margins, lightly faded spines, lightly nicked spine ends, off-setting to end papers, gilded top edges lightly worn, some faint soiling on covers.

Complete in two (2) volumes, uniformly bound in brown 3/4 cloth, marbled paper covered boards, ruled borders and lettered in gilt on spine panels, top text block edge in gilt, deckled edges. We have never encountered this binding variant on this title and suspect that the set has been rebound using the original boards (or that it may be custom, though there are no binder's tags present). In any case, a professional job with lovely results. Light rubbing along those portions of the edges not wrapped in cloth, otherwise presenting virtually as issued, with fully intact hinges, firm bindings, clean and unmarked interiors. Fine/Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. rare to find with original cloth dust jackets, especially when they have protected the book exteriors to the point to where they are as beautiful as they are. Cloth boards are clean and bright with only minor rubbing to the extremities where the dust jackets couldn't protect. Books also show minor bumping. Blue covers with gold lettering and decoration. Gilt top edges. 402 and 412 pages with folded map in rear of vol II. Both books have a bookplate in them showing the owner being John Watson Morrell, along with the family crest and arms. These are beautiful copies under heavy duty dust jackets which have performed well for the past 117 years.

Winston presumed 1st edition, 1899. Top edges gilt. Volume 1 has slight de-lamination of cloth from boards in a few spots and a small nick at head of spine. Volume 2 has lightly bumped bottom corners. Firmly bound, hinges and joints are good. Color railway map of England and Wales is intact in volume 1. Included ribbon markers are detached. No names or markings. Paper-backed cloth dust jackets have some light fading and edge wear. Very Good condition.
