All edges gilt, frontispiece with tissue guard, illustrations, and plates with tissue guards. The spine is lightly worn at the top and bottom, the corners are just lightly beginning to fray where they have been worn, and there is a small abrasion on the front free endpaper where a sticker has been removed. "The date at which men first began to jump fences on horseback cannot even be surmised. I find in no book or record whatever any expression of surprise that any horseman of old time had jumped a hedge, a brook, a stile, or anything else. Three volume set first editions on green decorative gilded cloth vols 1& 2 generally in good condition some ripplying and staining but very minimal and volume three whilst in tact has large tear to spine cover misisng an inch at top of spine plus inside end paper loose. The price has been reduced by over �100 due to the damage but can be reopstored repaired or rebound

Quarto, 12.25 x 10 inches, publisher's decorated green cloth gilt, beveled edges, all edges of text blocks gilded, very good, light wear and soil, occasional signs of dampstaining to top inner corners and some volumes have corner bumping, but a tidy clean set replete with lovely gravure and engraved plates.
