Hardcover book "Big Country Texas" by Donald Day and edited by Erskine Caldwell - published by Duell, Sloan and Pearce. First edition 1947. Good condition with tanned edges and small tear in the lower spine area between the front end-papers; with an Acceptable dust jacket with mostly edge tears. "In the historical panorama, the book includes the fierce Comanche, the Jesuit priest, the long rifled scout, the range boss and solitary sheepherder, the oilfield roughneck and railroad builder, and a host of other picturesque sons of Texas."

Sunning to edges of blue cloth covers, else lightly toned, clean, and unmarked. Dust jacket present, Brodart-protected, but moderately worn along edges, three tips clipped, chipping to spine head and foot, tape-repaired closed tear along top of front panel, tape-repaired bit chip at front bottom tip. Map endpapers, being of the U.S. Edited by Erskine Caldwell, being another fine contribution to the American Folkways series, which grew out of the W.P.A. Federal Writers Project. Six chapters of Texas-based Americana.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1947. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Not signed, but Larry McMurtry's copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown, a notable association since McMurtry is Mr. Literary Texas. From the American Folkways Series. A very good book with some fading to edges of boards and wear to lower edges, and a two-inch split to the pastedown endpaper low along the hinge (visible in photo 2), but no split board. The jacket is only good because of a chip to upper inner corner of the front panel. Still, a cool book: cows trailing down a grade on the cover. Curiously the whole back panel of the jacket is devoted to another book in the series, Southern California Country. Please inquire for photos.
