Poetry of World War I, written while the author, a captain in the British Army, was on active service in France. The title poem, written at Artres just after the signing of the Armistice, was inspired by the spectical of refugees returning from captivity to their damaged or destroyed homes. The thematic thread linking the poems is a belief in fairies. Very good, heavy offsetting to front and rear endpapers, occasional foxing to the text. In the rare printed dust wrapper, worn about the egdes and chipped at head and foot of spine; "D.M.A./ Cathedral Rd." is inked at the center of the front panel.

Though childlike in subject, the poems were not intended for children, and instead as a celebration of nature, and a reflection on the destruction caused by the war. In paper covered boards in the original dustwrapper. Externally, smart with just some browning to the boards and light rubbing. Dustwrapper chipped with light rubbing and sunning. Offsetting to first and last pages, lacking endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
