NY 1973 first edition. Aperture. Hardcover large 4to., 285pp., photo illustrations, gray-green cloth hardcover with black cloth spine. Near Fine, very slight foxing on fore-edges (not onto text pages at all) in Near Fine DJ. The front inner blurb flap has two small corner creases; there are no tears, no chips,price is not clipped. The dj is brown with photo image of ocean near rocks ( i.e. First edition, 2nd issue DJ), price not clipped. No owner marks. Pictures available on request. Surely among the greatest of all photographers. .

Black cloth spine with silver lettering and black paper covered heavy beveled boards also with silver lettering. VG with some wear to extremities. Some waterstaining at bottom of pages that does not get into images.1500 copies printed, designed by Merle Armitage. #1192. With Weston's initials in ink. With a short chapter about Weston by Robinson Jeffers.Weston chose these photographs as his best. At this point his health was not good and this book was a tribute to his career.

The first few pages and, to a lesser extent, the last few pages have some discoloration along the outer edges, not affecting any text or image. Front hinge is partially cracked, but holding well. The dust jacket is worn along the spine folds and is missing small chips at spine ends. .

Inscribed by Weston on half-title page, "To Bill and Zelda from Edward with his love. 10-19-47." William Holger was a friend of Weston from the 1930s when they met through the f/64 photography group. Holger was a carpenter and construction supervisor in San Francisco. He helped Weston construct his home on Wildcat Hill in Carmel.
This is Weston's second monograph produced and designed by Merle Armitage with written contributions by Armitage, Donald Bear and Robinson Jeffers.
One of 1500 copies numbered copies, initialed by Weston on a separate sheet and pasted on the colophon leaf. This is an unnumbered copy noted in ink as "personal".

Condition : Very Good with shelf wear and light bumped corners . The dust jacket is Good with soiling and edge ware the spine of this dust jacket is missing . An important collection of the American photographer's work designed by Merle Armitage.

Rubbed at the two upper tips, else very good in chipped and torn dustjacket. One of 1500 copies, INITIALED in ink by the photographer. Weston was seriously ill at this time. From his thousands of negatives he chose the fifty photos that he considered his best. It is difficult to argue with him.

Number 1314 of only 1500 copies initialed by Weston. Black cloth with silver particulars to spine. 50 plates. Scarce just jacket in unusually good condition with some minor wear to corners. No previous owners' names or other markings. All shipments by USPS insured Priority Mail.

A good copy. "The photographs collected in this volume are fifty of my favorite photographs chosen because they have lived well and because they have not been reproduced (excepting certain annuals and magazine) in book form before." With a final image of the photographer at Point Lobos. Edition limited to 1500 numbered copies, initialed by Weston at the limitation, this being no. 1375. Provenance: "Inscribed for Lou Jacobs Cordially Edward Weston" in ink at the half-title.
