Nims has noted in ink under the two subtitles the dates of publication "'46, '55". Laid in is a small sheet corresponding to brief notes (in light pencil) at the poems. Top edge a bit spotted, several pages with creased tips, but easily very good in a very good dust jacket: colors bright, small loss at extremities, one closed tear, and a small spot on the rear panel. Attractive association copy of the poet's second collection; one of 2000 copies printed. A Pulitzer Prize-winning volume. MacMahon A2. John Frederick Nims was a well-regarded poet, editor, professor, critic and translator, and Bishop's contemporary. He was the editor of POETRY MAGAZINE from 1978-1984.

Solid and Near Fine (just a hint of very light offsetting at the front free endpaper) in a crisp, price-intact, Near Fine dustjacket, with a bit of light creasing and chipping at the spine crown. Elizabeth Bishop's 2nd published collection of poetry, for which she was awarded the 1956 Pulitzer Prize. A pleasing, significantly above-average copy.

Bishop's first book, of which only 1000 copies were printed. Winner of the Houghton Mifflin Poetry Award. Owner name of Marjorie Bailey neatly penned on the front endpaper, quite likely belonging to the noted professor of English and Dramatic Arts and Literature at Stanford University whose students included John Steinbeck and who is considered a great influence in Steinbeck's formative years.

Very Good with toning to spine and edges, spine ends lightly bruised. Top edge dust soiled with light foxing. Endsheets slightly foxed; contents have penciled marginalia. The acclaimed American poet's first collection. A nice association copy between Bishop and British couple the Barkers (whose collection of correspondence with Bishop is held at Princeton).

Of Ilse Barker, The Guardian wrote in her obituary, "In the world of literature, she is now perhaps best known as the influential American poet Elizabeth Bishop's 'Dear Ilse,' a reference to their mutual passion for letter-writing which nurtured a friendship begun at Yaddo, an artists' retreat in New York State, in 1950." viii, 95pp. Bound in publisher's blue cloth stamped in white, lacking the dust jacket.
