It portrays 2 white & 2 black siblings who get into mischief together. Though later criticized for the dialect ascribed to the African-American children, the book was praised for its attempt to document Black life in the rural South of the 1930s. A FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1935, this oblong hardcover 8vo (9" x 11") has light green cloth-covered boards lettered in bright orange to front & spine. Condition is VG+: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with very mild tanning. Modest rubbing to extremities, with slight fraying at spine tips & corners. No DJ.
