The journey took six months and covered 4,500 miles, with Fairfax rowing from 12 to 20 hours per day in a 25-foot open boat. A fascinating record of an extraordinary journey. Laid in to the book is a letter from Toronto's legendary Albert Britnell Book Shop, dated 1987, fulfilling a customer's special order for this book as well as the credit card receipt for its purchase. Also laid in are previous owner's design plans for his own rowboat, a list of desirable characteristics for the boat, and a list of possible sponsors and sources of expertise. Quite wonderful.
