New York: Morrow Junior Books, 1998. Hardcover. Very good/Very Good. C.B. Falls. This is a special book. Graphic artist C.B. (Charles Buckles) Falls, particularly famous for his World War I poster art, created this book in 1923 for his daughter, and it has been in and out of print ever since. This particular copy is one of the last publications of Morrow Junior Books, one of the oldest imprints of children's books that disappeared when it was subsumed into HarperCollins in 1999. However, parents and critics have known from the first that Falls had created something unique. His woodcuts use animals to represent the different letters of the alphabet, with bright blue, green, orange, and yellow backgrounds that were markedly different from other artists of his day, who tended to stick to dull earth tones. A true collector's copy for those who appreciate either children's books or early 20th-century graphic arts. ABEDESC This is a special book. Graphic artist C.B. (Charles Buckles) Falls, particularly…

Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1927. Birthday Edition. Hardbound. VG+ externally, inside front hinge paper is crack coming up from the bottom but book is very solid and clean. Orange paper covered boards with black cloth spine. 28 pp. with 26 large, vibrant and colorful color woodblock prints. An exceptional copy, with an important inscription across the top of the illustrated ffep. It is a Christmas present to Laughlin Phillips (son of Duncan Phillips, who founded the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC) from Agnes Tack who was the wife of Augustus Vincent Tack, an artist whom the elder Phillips patronized for many years. Noteworthy as such, demonstrating the close bond between artist and patron. minor edge wear to cover edges and corners, a delightful copy overall.
