In her foreword, Ms. Farmer informs us that "all the recipes have been thoroughly tested, and not found wanting" (if Fannie Farmer says so, that's good enough for me). Contains recipes and menus for every special occasion imaginable (imaginable in 1911, at any rate, but that was before the self-absorbed and narcissistic rose from whatever depths they inhabited before polluting the Earth's surface), from St. Valentine's spreads to repasts on Dominion Day (if you're a Canadian born after 1982, look it up), and Christmas dinners to children's parties. A clean, tight copy, with slight wear to the bottom of the boards, but no markings or signs of use in the text. The pages have toned to a creamy beige. The illustrations are charming, and the endpapers are a delight. The front board is pictorial, and very bright. The jacket is intact at the back, intact with chipping at the front, almost nonexistent at the spine. A mylar Brodart cover keeps it together. Although this is not mentioned in her Wikipedia biography, I have read elsewhere that Farmer pioneered the modern recipe format, with a list of ingredients at the front followed by instructions. Dark green boards, gold lettering on spine, white lettering and paste-on illustration on front of baby angel sharpening a knife in preparation for carving a turkey, 240 numbered pages. Lightly rubbed on ends of spine, corners rubbed and bowed. Small smudge on front, two (1/8 inch) lines on spine, else boards bright. Store label (1 x .25 inch) on front paste-down and colour carried over to ffep, faint pencil erasure shadow on ffep, page following fly title page loose on top half but firmly attached. Binding tight. Spatter of tiny dots on page 126 -127, faint thumb mark on page 195 and 225, else pages spotless. A lovely, bright copy!. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No DJ. Dark green cloth boards, with debossed white text on the front cover with three-quarters pastedown illustration. Spine has gold gilt text with minor blemishes to the top or bottom of the back strip where it meets the front and rear gutters. Front board has light rubbing along the gutter where it meets the back strip and minor cosmetic blemishes. The rear board has minor cosmetic blemishes but also a wrinkling of the cloth above the center point. Corners are all sharp with wear at each of the tips. Spine is straight with no cracking at the decorative endpapers and with firm hinges. Text block is solid with all pages attached. Age tanning and some foxing throughout. All interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or previous owner marks. Illustrated with Half Tone Engravings of Set Tables and black & white cherub on all text pages.
