Garden City Publishing Co, 1937. Hardcover. Good. Hardcover with slipcase. Slipcase is worn, with scraping and rubbing to front and back and all along sides corners. The paper covering the cardboard of case is splitting a tad along the outside edge of the case. Front of case features beautiful illustration, pasted to front of case. The book is in wonderful condition. Corners are square, extremely light darkening to the spine. The design on front board is in remarkable shape, the gilt is still bright as is rest of the ink. Front paste down has ex-libris sticker of former owner. Several small stains to outside edge of text block. Top of text block still retains gold luster, with just a few dings to the gilt. Light toning to pages. Light foxing on backside of FEP. Darkening to the glue of paste downs. Binding is in good shape, perfectly readable. The most wear to this book is to the slipcase itself. 197 pages.

Front cover embossed and lettered with gilt and black. 20 tipped-in full colour plates. Text and plates decorated with ornamental borders in green. Decorative endpapers. The spine has separated and while there are loose pages and the binding itself is precarious, all is present and remains clean and bright..

"This edition of The Rubaiyat follows the original Golden Cockerel Press edition, designed by Christopher Sandford, and set in Caslon's Old Face type. The illustrations are copied from the collotypes in that edition. The presswork, on Curtis' Tweedweave Text, is by the Murray Printing Company, and the binding is by the Kingsport Press. The jacket was designed by Lauretta Sellitti, and the book was published in this edition in December, 1965." (Copyright page) Except for a name, "Enjoy!" and a date on the front free endpaper the books is clean and bright throughout. The cloth covering the boards is foxed; the dustjacket is price-clipped and a bit darkened at the extremes.. Silk covered boards. Very Good/Very Good. Illus. by J. Small quarto (25.75cm); full tan cloth, with titling and decorations stamped in gilt on spine and front cover, and black and gold illustrated label mounted to front cover; top edge gilt; dustjacket; publisher's original decorative box; 171,[5]pp; with frontispiece and 11 tipped-in color plates, and 46 black and gold mounted illustrations by Pogany throughout the text. A fresh, Fine copy, with preliminary and terminal leaves uncut. Dustjacket has a nearly invisible razor-thin cut at upper rear panel, else Near Fine, without wear or fading. Publisher's box shows some trivial wear and dustiness to extremities, with lower half showing a corresponding razor-thin cut on verso; still quite sound, and very well preserved.
