Pencil inscription to front free endpaper and paste-down, with a few small nicks along text block edge. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with slight bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate tanning and sunning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a prominent forward lean. Bubbling to spine with water drop on rear board.

Geoffrey Winthrop Young (1876-1958) was a British climber, poet and author of many notable books on mountaineering. This is his interesting account of his expeditions in the Alps. A COPY WITH FINE PROVENANCE. Along with being President of the Alpine Club the author was also an accomplished poet and he brings a poet's sensibilities to this continuous account of the great ascents made by him in the Alps. It conveys the ever-changing charms of the Alps themselves along with the changing outlook of the mountaineer.
