Ex owners name and date to TP, illustrations including numerous folding maps, charts and plates (all present except the Sketch of Port Banks), wear on front and rear boards but less on the spine, binding is firm, silverfish edge loss and holes from the front endpaper to the chart of the voyage after page xxix. A rare volume but alas the early pages are not in great order. .

Contemporary calf boards (rubbed through at corners), rebacked with new spine, original marbled endpapers retained. Armorial bookplate of John Bridge on front pastedown, Bridge's name and 1827 date written at head of title page, along with "This book belonged to H.R.H. the Duke of York." We believe this is the John Bridge of the firm Rundell and Bridge, jewelers to the royal family. A few plates and one chart with foxing, but overall a very clean copy. The volume consists of 49 letters from William Beresford ("a person on board the Queen Charlotte") to his friend Hamlen, edited by Dixon, who also added an introduction and two appendices and the important maps.
