In Volume 4: An Attempt to Expand, Gilmore presents selected comics not shown in previous volumes, ranging from the work of "Mr. Prolific," to the work from the forties, fifties and sixties. An interesting look at the development of the form. Of special note is the editor's inclusion of many 16-page stories and the lengthy "Travelin' Preacher" tale - a novelistic landmark in the field.
