Descripción:
New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1881. The political economist Henry George (1839-1897) had a tremendous influence on the Progressive reformers. His belief was that a "single tax" could cure the inequities of unearned wealth leading to general poverty. Ireland, with its dispossessed peasantry, was an obvious laboratory and exemplar for his theories. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Uncommon to scarce. Green marbled paper-covered boards with a leather spine. Clean text; 85 pages, with an eight-page advert in the rear for his most famous work, "Progress and Poverty." This is an ex-lib copy, but the treatments are relatively unobtrussive: a contemporary (1882) label on the front paste-down; a stamp on the Title Page; a pocket in the rear. Rubbed at the margins; small chips to the spine; hinges cracked but holding well. In an archival plastic protector.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
