In original dark red hardback halfbound leather binding, Cover torn along the length of the backstrip, but only just still intact by a small amount of binding at the top. Backstrip and covers very scuffed, with some of the leather torn off from the corners of the covers. Binding split in the middle of the book, but the two halves are still attached. Pageblock in poor condition, with a liquid stain extending from the bottom to halfway up on the majority of pages. Otherwise, there are no other markings or annotations in the text.This book has hardback covers. Ex-library, With usual stamps and markings, In poor condition, suitable as a reading copy. Original binding of printed grey card wrappers, printed red paper dustwrapper. Light chafing to the extremities of the covers, some scattered foxing; overall, the book is in good plus condition. The dustwrapper is in tatty condition (stained, chipped and torn). It is unusual to find a copy in the original soft covers - most copies of this book were rebound in hard covers.

Front cover has several small chips and an area (approx 2cms x 2.5cms) that appears to be damge perhaps from something with adhesive qualities. A little light scratching to the rear board. Internally: light crease to top corner of half title page, tissue guard to colour frontispiece all but lost, occasional creasing to other tissue guards (all of which are titled), tipped in photograph with associated tissue guard loose at p136, some light spotting here and there. Full blue/black leather binding with gilt coat of arms to front cover. Gilt decoration around front & rear cover edges on both outer & inner surfaces. Five raised bands to spine with gilt decoration and titles. Marbled end papers and teg. Stiff manila wraps with a red paper dust jacket, deckle edges, color frontis with captioned tissue, 195 pages [5], 40 b & w plates from the Royal Collections, engraved and printed by Boussod, Valadon & Co., Fine Art Publishers to Her Majesty. This is a rather nice copy. The red dust jacket is worn a little at corners and spine ends, and there are some penciled numbers on the front cover. Quarto, 12.75 x 10 inches, 200 pp, beautiful color frontispiece with facsimile of Victoria's signature underneath (so well done that we had to compare it to other copies online to be sure it was printed). Very good, wraps are foxed or spotty, light soil and darkening to covers, housed in folding cloth portfolio in red cloth stamped in gilt, with wear, waterstaining to rear panel, darkening to spine and wear along outer joints.

A large volume handsomely bound in three quarter crimson morocco and marbled paper covered boards. Five raised bands on spine, gilt lettering to spine with 1897 at tail. Top edge gilt with fore and bottom edges rough cut. Marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Moderate shelfwear and rubbing with cracks to the top and bottom of the front joint but binding still strong. Short cellotape mark to top of blank flyleaf, some light foxing, few tissue guards have creased corners but no tears. A presentable copy of a handsomely produced book. See photos.
