Olive Schreiner writing as "Ralph Iron" presents here a fascinating view of South African farm life, with all the explosive elements of European imperialism and prejudice toward the native population intact, particularly the Boers' less than sympathetic attitudes. Although the dedication page is dated June, 1983, there is no indication of the actual publication date for this volume. The book is in Very Good+ or Near-Fine condition. A small volume, measuring 4 1/4 by 6 inches, this novel is noteworthy for its clean and bright condition and its ornate Art Nouveau front panel and spine, with die stamped silver designs and borders against a pale gray-green woven cloth. It was very much talked about in England when colonialism in Africa was dominant, yet little did the British and other Europeans know about the continent of Africa. Glossary with Dutch and Colonial words, near front. The developed characters are rural, includingthe story a mixture of autobiography, journalism, and Zeitgeist.
