Edition not known, In quite good russet coloured limp covers, black tittles and image of lady of the barge on front. The covers are fairly clean and firm, with creased corners. Tanned end papers; name on front free end paper. Tanned cut edges. The text block is in better condition, good plus, light foxing on a few pages, but not tanned, quite tightly bound, slight vertical warp. Pages 123 - 128 have a tiny piece missing from tail edge.

Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate tanning to spine, sunning to inner edge of boards. Gilt lettering is darkened. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean.

Harper & Brothers,, 1903. 8vo., Third Edition, on laid paper, with a frontispiece (original tissue guard present) and 11 plates, some faint browning to endpapers, small contemporary signature on blank preliminary verso; original terracotta cloth, upper board elaborately blocked and lettered in black, backstrip lettered in gilt and blocked in black, uncut, a near fine copy. Published a year after the first edition. This classic collection of twelve short stories includes the first appearance of 'The Monkey's Paw', widely acclaimed as one of the finest short horror stories ever written. Very scarce, especially in this condition. Bleiler 896; NCBEL IV, p.621 (recording the first edition).

Boards dust-dulled, darkened with age but NO FADING to spine whatsoever. Front hinge firm but just starting. Corners and tips of spine rubbed with a tiny pin prick hole along the gutter, literally 1mm X 1mm. Previous owner's name ink stamped on pastedown side of FEP with the front free end-paper and rear free end-paper heavily age-toned. Contents unaffected though, a VG copy. N.B: contains the first appearance of The Monkey's Paw, one of the most reprinted supernatural short stories and adapted 'The Monkey's Paw', widely acclaimed as one of the finest horror short stories ever written. The story has been filmed and televised numerous times. Photographs/scans available upon request.

New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1902. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Beige cloth illustrated in blue, green, white, and black by AR (Amy Richards). Contemporary owner's name, small stain at the bottom of the spine, modest soiling, a very good copy. Contains one of the most anthologized and finest of all horror stories, "The Monkey's Paw." The story has been filmed and televised numerous times, our favorite adaptation being the *Simpsons* Halloween special.

NY: DODD, MEAD & COMPANY.. Near Fine with no dust jacket. 1902. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. First American edition precedes the British edition. Presumed 'Second Issue' with "Dodd, Mead & Company" stamped on spine. About fine, but for a partially erased previous owner's name inked at head of front end paper, and spots of old glue at corners of paste downs & end paper. One spot of glue staining at rear paste down. Lacks the rare jacket. The full-color pictorial decoration on front cover is virtually 'as new'. None of the usual hinge problems & soiling common with this title. Features the first publication of the famous horror story "The Monkey's Paw." .
