Lindley felt that there was a lack of books for people, especially women and girls, 'who would become acquainted with Botany as an amusement and a relaxation', and attempted to meet this need.

Clean tight text a little spotted in places has been fitted with new endpapers and probably rebound (some years ago) in strong green cloth. Gold on burgundy title label. Ink notes (circa 1916) over endpapers. Sound working copy. Book is in good double plus condition with noticeable signs of wear and/or age. . Hardback. G++/No DW.

A couple of small, minor tears to page edges, not affecting text. Tanning to page edges. Contents otherwise tight and clean. Good.
