Together with explanatory notes and observations by William Whiston from the last London edition of 1827. Leather board with title in gold on black on the spine of each volume. Both volumes are generally tight. Aging, wear, and rubbing to the covers and their edges. Foxing and yellowing of pages. Slight but noticeable water stains.

Owner's ink signature in volume one and small bookplate in volume 2, overall wear to the calf binding, front hinge of volume one is loose, moderate scattered foxing, a good only sound set. From the library of the artists Ben Shahn and Bernarda Bryson Shahn, with an estate label designed by their son, Jonathan Shahn.
