Dj in Good+ condition with one open tear on the top front panel where 'JA' in 'JAPAN' should be, else light shelfware only & preserved in Brodart protective sleeve. Pages complete, clean & firmly bound. Most are full page illustrations of mostly b&w photographs by Sonobe, with some color photos included as well. Blue cloth covered boards clean & square, top corner of the book shows some minor sunning, gold lettering on spine fine.

Thick quarto, beautifully photographed in rich gravure by Kiyoshi Sonobe. Another in Tuttle's long line of first-rate studies of Japanese history and culture.
