Lacks all before title page (front end-paper and possibly half-title). Pp.xxiv,224. 12 (of 17) plates present, lacking plates 8,14,15,16 and 17 (with Description of plates 13,15,16,and 17 also lacking). Text complete and quite clean.

London: printed for Robert Baldwin, nd [c. 1810]. New edition, revised and corrected (hardback). 8vo, xxiv, 224pp. 16 copper plates (of 17 - lacks plate 12). Half brown calf, marbled paper-covered boards. This copy is only in fair condition - the boards are heavily rubbed (although the binding is sound), the endpapers are scuffed, the plates are stained and plate 9 is creased and torn. There is an ownership inscription to the front free endpaper, dated 1843.

Birmingham: Printed for the Author, 1801. First edition, 4to (260 x 205 mm), xxiv, 212pp., 18 copper-engraved plates (5 of which are folding), slightly offset, plates I-XV accompanied by a leaf of descriptive letterpress, cont. half calf, marbled paper boards, neatly rebacked with orig. label laid-down, attractive simple gilt tooling, a very good copy. The scarce first edition published in Birmingham, the home of the author before he moved his veterinary practice to London. Smith had only seen the later edition of of this work and was not aware of the date of the first edition. Provenance: Contemporary armorial bookplate of Bradford Wilmer to front paste-down.
