Twelve stories by the author best known for his Winnie-the-Pooh books each illustrated with a charming full color plate by Saida (H. Willebeek Le Mair). The stories were commissioned by McKay to accompany these drawings. Small illustration on title page is repeated on the pasted-on illustration on the front cover. Folio. 105 pp.

Delightful collection of 12 fantasy stories for children, his second book, written after "When We Were Young,'' but before "Winnie-the-Pooh" appeared the next year. In 105 pages, with 12 soft watercolor full-page glossy plates throughout by illustrator "Saida" (H. Willebeek LeMair). One of these has come completely detached & shows wrinkling & creasing around outer edges; others are intact & perfect! The FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, first printing, from 1925, this hardcover 4to is bound in publisher's light blue cloth over boards, lettered in stamped gilt to front & spine, with a colorful paper pastedown of a child in a gilt-edged box to center front. Condition is VG+: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages creamy white with moderate edge tanning, foxing to endpapers only.… Leer más

Cloth with gilt letters and mounted color paper illustration on the front cover. 105 pp., 12 full-page color illustrations. The text and illustrations are clean and bright, the cloth is lightly soiled and rubbed at the head of the spine, otherwise nice copy in very good condition.

Stanley Paul, London., 1925. First edition. Quarto. 106 pages. Twelve stories, each one introduced with a colour plate by Saida (H. Willebeek Le Mair). The title-page also carries a colour illustration. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt with the title-page design reproduced. Endpapers partially tanned. Very good indeed in very good, slightly marked and rubbed dustwrapper with several short tears at the edges.

A Gallery Of Children, Stanley Paul & Co Ltd / David McKay, 1925, first edition (American issue as noted by the binding of blue ribbed cloth with David McKay stamped at the base of the spine). The barest hint of foxing to the end-papers, else a near fine copy with slight rubbing to the spine extremities along with 12 tipped in full color plates by Le Mair (Saida). 1/500 copies specially bound and SIGNED and numbered by the author. (Editorial - As the sheets for this book are undeniably of the British edition, we assume that the number of copies bound by McKay of the SIGNED / limited edition as this is, are just a fraction of the total 500 copies. We hesitate a guess, but feel that 50 to 100 copies at most fit this venue. If anyone has a more definitive number, we would be happy to learn of it).
