Spent an unhappy childhood in streets of NYC & some time in reform school & foster homes. BA from Brandeis where he met & married Roslyn Shapiro. MA Jewish Techological Seminary of America. Lewisohn worked as a cab driver, dishwasher, bartender & cook, then editor of the Columbia Encyclopedia, teacher of disturbed children, PR writer, newspaper poetry editor & tenured professor of English at Univ. Of Maine in Portland. In 1974 she died & he received life in prison for her murder. Library markings. .
