Lara, A Tale, a rhymed tragic narrative poem, was first published anonymously by Lord Byron in 1814 alongside Jacqueline, a Tale, a poem which was not written by him. In this first edition, there is no indication that separate authors wrote each narrative poem; however, we now know that Lord Byron wrote Lara, a Tale, and the English poet Samuel Rogers wrote Jacqueline, a Tale. 2 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Bookplate and three generations of ownership signatures. The first work composed after Byron abandoned the idea of giving up writing and buying back his copyrights, Lara is regarded by critics as a continuation of the autobiographical work begun in The Corsair. Unlike The Corsair, it was published anonymously, in conjunction with Samuel Rogers' Jacqueline.
