Bound in full period vellum, spine decorated in gilt, covers with an elaborate border in gilt and red, a single red fillet surrounding two gilt fillets encompassing a repeating gilt floral scroll which encloses a single red fillet with gilt floral devices at corners, upper cover features a large gilt 'ROMA' at center while the rear cover features the she-wolf suclkling Romulus and Remus, edges red, marbled endpapers (has some wear, traces of damp, and slight bowing to covers, several later ink stamps). Illustrated with 9 original mounted photographs (including frontispiece which is after a painting); 1 b/w plate.
