Contains Lumpkin’s speeches in Congress, correspondence as Governor of Georgia and as U. S. Commissioner to the Cherokees (1827--1841), and a sketch of his life. Lumpkin was appointed by President Andrew Jackson a the first United State Commissioner under the Cherokee Treaty.
